Carbon Steering Wheel
Carbonautica
Carbonautica ultra-light monocoque carbon wheels are unique in terms of design, strength and quality.
The benefits of carbon
Maximum performance and rigidity
All-carbon construction for maximum rigidity and instant response, ensuring precise control in all sailing conditions.
Ultra-light design
Designed to minimise rotational inertia for faster feedback and more responsive steering — especially noticeable on dual-wheel setups.
Premium construction
Built as a monocoque structure with no joints or secondary bonding for optimal strength and durability.
High-end aesthetics
Visible carbon weave delivers an elegant, technical and luxurious finish.
Compatibility
(standard hub vs slim hub)
Carbonautica carbon steering wheels are delivered with standard aluminum hubs, compatible with major steering systems for smooth integration. Slim hub versions are designed as direct replacements for stainless steel steering wheels, often allowing existing wheel brakes and components to be retained.
Compatible systems:
Edson (1" cone)
Lewmar (25 mm cone)
Jefa (25 mm)
Goiot (25 mm cone)

Steering Wheel Weight
Carbonautica carbon steering wheels are among the lightest on the market; weight varies by diameter:

Weight by diameter:
- 700 mm: approx. 1.40 kg
- 800 mm: approx. 1.50 kg
- 900 mm: approx. 1.60 kg
- 1000 mm: approx. 1.80 kg
- 1100 mm: approx. 2.00 kg
- 1200 mm: approx. 2.20 kg
Larger diameters follow the same pattern up to approx. 3.8 kg (1700 mm).
All weights are given without hub and may vary by ±5%. (hub weight: approx. 350 g)
Tip: this extremely low weight greatly reduces wheel inertia and autopilot load, for better sailing performance.
Choose Quality Technical Equipment
Customisation and design freedom
Carbon steering wheels offer a refined, performance-oriented aesthetic, with customisation options such as:
- Gloss or matte carbon finishes
- Painted teak handgrip option
- Several spoke styles (Sport, 3-spoke, 5-spoke)
- Custom marking and detail options

Ideal choice for
- High-performance and racing sailboats
- Premium cruising sailboats seeking top-grade materials
- Owners who prioritise weight reduction and wheel responsiveness
A complete range: diameter 700 to 1700 depending on model
The weight is 2 to 3 times less than a stainless steel steering wheel, which results in lower inertia in the steering system when the autopilot is engaged — especially as most production boats today have 2 wheels!
Carbon performance at a fraction of the cost!
Carbonautica glass fibre steering wheels are made like carbon wheels, in a single piece without bonding, giving a very strong monocoque structure. The anodised aluminium hub is integrated in the mould which is painted before placement so the wheel leaves the mould finished.
The difference is that the Carbonautica glass fibre composite wheel is much less expensive than the carbon version.
Our GFC (Glass Fiber Composite) steering wheels are made using our new injection process and the integrated hubs are compatible with most steering systems on the market (Jefa, Lewmar, Edson, Goiot).
We can produce a custom wheel to your specifications!

Understanding inertia
The concept of inertia is very important: depending on sea conditions the autopilot will work in bursts and will therefore be subject to steering system inertia — the lighter the wheels, the less strain on the autopilot.
